The Directions button in an online invitation works based on the location entered in the event details. In most cases this works correctly right away. However, navigation can sometimes give unexpected results if the location is not recognized precisely.
The most common causes are related to postcode, house number or the name of a location.
When entering a location, always select an address or place from the suggestion list. This reduces the chance that navigation apps will use the wrong destination.
Only entering a postcode
A postcode without a house number often refers to a larger area. Navigation apps may then not know exactly where guests should go and might direct them to the middle of a street or neighbourhood.
It is therefore best to use a full address including street name and house number.
House number missing or incorrect
If a house number is missing or entered incorrectly, navigation may send guests to a nearby address. This can be confusing, especially on long streets or industrial areas.
Check that the house number is correct and preferably select the address from the suggestion list shown while typing.
Using only the name of a location
Many places are recognizable by name, such as a restaurant, hotel or event venue. Google often recognizes these automatically. However, sometimes the same name exists in multiple places.
Examples:
- a restaurant chain with several branches
- a venue with the same name in different cities
- a park or beach with multiple entrances
Make sure you choose the correct location from the suggestion list.
Test the route yourself
It is a good idea to test the route yourself after saving the invitation. Open the invitation and click the Directions button. This shows exactly which destination guests will receive.
