Calendar button not working

The Add to calendar button normally opens a window where guests can choose their calendar, such as Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. Sometimes it may seem like the button is not working. In most cases, this is caused by the browser, an app setting or a restriction on the device.

Buttons at the bottom of the online invitation

Use the checks below to quickly see where the problem may be.

1. Check whether the page has fully loaded

If the invitation page is still loading, buttons may temporarily not respond. Wait a few seconds and click the calendar button again.

2. Check whether pop-ups are allowed

The calendar options usually open in a new window or tab. Some browsers block this automatically. Check whether pop-ups are allowed for the invitation page. After allowing pop-ups, the button usually works right away.

3. Try a different browser

If the button does not work in one browser, try opening the same link in another browser. For example Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. This often helps determine whether the problem is caused by a browser setting.

4. Test on another device

Sometimes the problem is related to a specific app or device setting. Test the link on another device as well, for example on a phone instead of a computer.

5. Check whether the invitation link works

Open the online invitation again via the link and then try clicking Add to calendar once more. If the page opens correctly, the calendar button should also work.

What is an ICS file?
The calendar feature uses a so-called .ics file. This is a standard format supported by almost all calendar apps. The file contains the date, time, location and link to the event so calendars can add it automatically.
