Background vs. card color

In the editor you can give two parts of your invitation a color: the background and the card. Together they determine the overall look of your invitation. The card is the central area where the text and image appear. The background is the space around the card that fills the rest of the page.

A slightly darker background than the card often makes the card stand out more. A lighter background can create a calmer and more open look. Even small color differences can add depth to your design.

Choosing card and background colors

The card is the central area of your invitation. This is where the text and usually the image are placed. When choosing the card color, two things are important:

  • The text must remain clearly readable
  • The card color should match the image

The background color plays a slightly different role. It mainly sets the mood of the page and supports the central card.

In practice it often works best to choose the card color first (together with the text color) and only then select the background color. This allows you to pick a background that visually supports the card and balances the overall design.

Using colors from an image

If you use a colored card together with a photo, it often works well to take a color from the image as the starting point for the card color. With the color picker tool you can easily select a tone from the image. This helps the photo and card match visually and creates a calmer overall design.

The color picker allows you to copy colors directly from an image. This makes it easy to reuse colors from the photo in other parts of your design.

Steps: creating a matching background color

With a few simple steps you can choose a background color that fits both the image and the card.

  1. First select Card in the editor.
  2. Open the color picker and use the eyedropper to select a color from the image.
  3. Then switch to Background.
  4. Use the eyedropper again and click on the card color.
  5. Slightly adjust the color in the picker so it becomes just a bit lighter or darker.

This creates a background color that clearly matches the card while still remaining subtly different.
